OUR APPROACH

At FLO2, we address three interconnected dimensions of breathing because optimal breathing isn't just about taking bigger breaths. It's about how you breathe, how your body uses oxygen, and how your nervous system responds to your breathing.
Our approach addresses:
The Biochemical Dimension: Efficient breathing depends on healthy carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels, which allow oxygen to be delivered from the blood into your muscles, brain, and tissues.
The Biomechanical Dimension: This dimension focuses on breathing mechanics and how your diaphragm, ribs, posture, and airway work together.
The Psychophysiological Dimension: This dimension focuses on improving tolerance to breathlessness, calming the stress response, and restoring confidence in your breathing.
Why Does This Matter?
Breathing rehabilitation and wellness coaching require addressing all three dimensions together to restore calm, efficient breathing at rest, during exercise, and in daily life.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between breathing rehabilitation and breathing wellness coaching?
Breathing rehabilitation includes medical, diagnosis-based treatment for individuals with breathing disorders such as BPD, DB, VCD/EILO, and EIA. This service requires a physician referral and documented diagnosis and may be eligible for insurance reimbursement. Care is provided by a licensed speech-language pathologist (SLP) using clinical assessment and evidence-based protocols. In-person breathing rehabilitation is offered in Ventura, CA. Virtual breathing rehabilitation with a licensed SLP is currently offered in CA, AZ, CO, ID, and NV.
Breathing wellness coaching involves non-medical, performance-focused breathing education and training available to anyone looking to improve breathing efficiency, endurance, stress regulation, or physical performance. No diagnosis or referral is required, and breathing wellness coaching sessions are not eligible for submission for insurance reimbursement. In-person breathing wellness coaching is offered in Ventura, CA. Virtual breathing wellness coaching is available in any state.
Both approaches are grounded in the same science but delivered through different clinical and training frameworks to meet you where you are.
What age groups does FLO2 work with?
FLO2 works primarily with adolescents and adults.
Are your services covered by insurance?
FLO2 is a private-pay practice and does not take insurance at this time. If you have a medical diagnosis and documentation from a physician, you may be eligible for out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance provider. In this case, you will be provided with a Superbill, which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.
What are your hours?
Karie works by appointment and offers flexible hours, including afternoons and evenings, to accommodate school-age athletes. All virtual sessions are held through a secure platform.
